Hi Brianne! I started working on this weeks assignments and the first thing we need to do is work in our group to make an assignment that relates to our topic. I thought our assignment could be:

Compare and contrast differences and similarities of recycling habits between regions.

-Communicate with 5th graders from somewhere either in Canada or Europe
-Contact other students after researching ways we recycle here in the United States
-Questions students could ask/info. to share:
      *different/similar ways to recycle
      *different/similar recyclable products
      *different/similar recycling services
-When students get info. make a Venn Diagram and find the benefits of recycling awareness

So, just let me know your thoughts/ideas about this topic and everything that goes along with it. No rush. I will talk to you soon. :)

  1. Also, for our individual assignment (the movie thing), since our topic is recycling awareness, I think the concept I'm going to focus on is "why recycling is important to our environment"

  3. Hey! I think that sounds great for the first part of this weeks assignment. While reading through the assignment those were mostly the thoughts that I was having on what we can do. I was also thinking that maybe we could open the lesson by having students communicate with students in other countries about recycling and then do the research on how we recycle here to compare/contrast. I was just thinking it could be interesting for the students to research a part of recycling that our culture does not take part in but they know other students their own age do. Sorry if that was confusing I was having trouble wording it! But either way is fine with me!

  4. That sounds like a great idea! Now we just need to figure out how to use google documents and google maps. I'll start looking over how to do that so we can each set up one of the accounts. I'll let you know how it goes! :)

  5. Alright so I think I figured out how to use google docs. Here is the link:

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XdRsX7s0nzChNKg44nvTx6591Ntr9Xv2MxVCGY4L21c/edit?hl=en_US

I wrote our ideas for the virtual pen pal assignment in the document and gave you permission to edit anything you feel is necessary. Once we think it is ready we just need to copy and paste the final result in our blog. I hope this isn't too confusing! Let me know what you think/obviously feel free to change anything you want! Remember we still have to use google maps for the second part of the assignment. I'll talk to you soon!

  6. Hey I just read through what you wrote and I think that looks really good! I just added one more question for what the students can ask. Other than that though I think it looks really good! Also I was thinking for the google maps part of the assignment that it may be cool to create a map of the world and label certain countries with some statistics on recycling for that country. I'll definatly put statistics for the U.S. and Canada and then maybe a few more countries to compare the results.I'll start making the map but if you don't want to do this idea we don't have to!

  12. I looked at the map. I think it looks good! I'm not sure if I did it right but I may have added a fact about Asia and some facts about the U.S. and Canada just in case we wanted to add more info. But, overall it looks good! :)
